On the 16th April 2019, sections 5 and 8 of the Immigration Act were amended as follows:
- With regards to the status of a non-citizen who is the spouse of a citizen of Mauritius, the Act provides that he/she shall have the status of a resident where that person “was not a prohibited immigrant at the time of becoming such a spouse”.
- With regards to the list of “Prohibited Immigrants” as defined by section 8 of the Immigration Act, the following class of people has been added:
- “persons who, from information or advice which in the opinion of the Minister is reliable information or advice, are likely to be undesirable inhabitants of, or visitors to, Mauritius”;
- “persons or class of persons whose presence in Mauritius, from information or advice which in the opinion of the Minister is reliable information or advice, is likely to be prejudicial to the interests of defence, public safety, public order, public morality or public health.”
